I Am A Kotex Mom Ambassador – Let’s Start Those Talks With Our Girls NOW!

I don’t remember the exact day I started my period or how old I was but I do remember the details of that day.   Not really sure if “it” was happening, I decided to ignore the signs.  My mom had a few conversations about “my period” but I didn’t really want to listen, it was embarrassing.   I was at my best friends house across the street, when my mom called me home.  She wanted to let me know I had “started.”  I was mortified!  First, she called me at my friends house and second, I had to wear a bulky pad.  I was getting ready to leave for church camp the next day and was so uncomfortable about going and dealing with all of it.  Were the kids going to make fun of me?  Would anyone know by looking at me that I had started?  I am sure you experienced all the same feelings and had the same questions.

Now I have a 12 year old daughter and want to be there for her.  We have had a few talks about what to expect.  I had even purchased the Kotex U Tween pads.  Knowing we needed to be prepared, I wanted to have something on hand for when it happens.  I had seen an advertisement in a magazine where it described the Kotex U Tween pads as shorter and narrower for smaller bodies.  (Oh how I wish they had these when I was younger!)  We put a few of the pads in a cosmetic bag and kept them in her backpack…just in case.

I am thrilled to be a Kotex Mom Ambassador and share with you our journey of growing up.   I will be sharing tips on how to talk to our girls and open the door of communication.  We need them to know we are approachable.  Kotex has some great resources for our tweens and teens.  Check out Hello Period on the Kotex U site.  Emily and I will be going through the site in the next month…I want her to hear from girls like herself who are growing up just like she is.

Earlier this month Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights) released a Get Real Video by Kotex and Nickelodeon Parents Connect.  She openly shares about her and her moms relationship and the talks they have had.   I am working hard at being a mom just like hers.  I want the doors to be open for any conversation with Emily.

Do you have a tween daughter and have you had the talk with her?  I hope you will join me for my journey during the next 6 months.   I will be sharing lots of great information from Kotex!  We can do this together!

Disclosure:  I wrote this review while participating in a Brand Ambassador Campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of U by Kotex Tween and received products to facilitate my post and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

  1. Okay, I not only had to wear a bulky pad but it was in the days before peel and stick. Had a nice heavy elastic belt to hold the thing in place that could be spotted a mile away through my pants. Oh how times have changed!
