It Could Happen Anywhere At Anytime! – Preparing Our Tweens

If this is your first time stopping by Tammy’s Two Cents, this post might catch you off guard.  I am part of the U by Kotex Tween Ambassador program.  We are a group of bloggers who all have tweens and are facing the adolescent changes or soon will be.  Once a month, we have been sharing topics on helping our daughters on this journey.   (I will list the links to my latest posts down below.)

This month we are talking about “maintenance,” which is probably the hardest for me, as I don’t want to scare my daughter.   She understands the moodiness and the swing of emotions that comes along with growing up (and our periods).  We have talked about what alleviates the cramps and uncomfortableness such as ibuprofen.    I do need to take it to the next level and let her know that accidents happen and not to be worried about it.  Her and I are very open and she has asked many questions to prepare for this.

I know I have talked about preparedness and what we have done for school.  It’s hard to think ahead sometimes but there are so many places she could be when this happens.  Keeping the communication open and dropping subtle suggestions (without embarrassing her) is the key for our family.  Once she starts, we will have more in depth conversations as to when and how often a pad is changed and what to do if she waited too long.  Still so much to talk about, like the calendar counting and figuring out the signals our body makes before hand.

Our conversations are on going and it never really stops…we just start up where we left off or she comes to me with a question. I am so thankful for great sights like Kotex who will walk us, as parents, through the entire talk.  If your daughter likes to check out information on her own, they have a fantastic page for girls, written by girls.  It’s called Hello Period.

How have you shared these maintenance factors with your daughters?  Any ideas on how to talk to our daughters with ease?

Disclosure:  I wrote this review while participating in a Brand Ambassador Campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of U by Kotex Tween and received products to facilitate my post and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

I think this is great! My mom never really had a long talk with me about my period. I knew what is was and that it would happen every month for a week but thats it. Thankfully my first period was during the summer & didnt happen at school. I was traumatized by the hideous belt that held our huge pads in place back then! Luckily pads have come a long long way since then! If my mom had warned me about the pads before hand I wouldnt have been as shocked!.So I think this program is great!

  2. My daughter is autistic, so discussing and making a game plan for her periods is a must! She needs to have the information beforehand so she can process it when it happens. Luckily I started discussing periods when she was 10, because I had no idea when it would it would happen. It happened when she was 11 and she acted like it was no big deal because she knew all about it from our discussions. I always make sure she has a change of clothes and a plastic bag in her backpack. She knows what to do if she needs to change. She is almost 13, so mom is a little annoying to her now, lol. But I try to bring it up once a month and ask how things are going. This gives her a chance to talk about it with me is she needs to or just a chance to say ‘I know mom’ when I bug her, lol.
