All I Want For Christmas Is…Hickory Farms!

When I was little either my grandparents or aunt would send our family a box of Hickory Farms.  My sister and I would get so excited.  Sausage, Cheese, Sweet Mustard and Crackers…oh my!  I have always loved their Signature Beef Summer Sausage (an American Masters of Taste Gold Medal winner) and I must have passed that down to our son.  He just asked me a couple weeks ago if I would buy some summer sausage.

Much to his delight, we received a box of Hickory Farms with not one package of sausage BUT THREE!  You should have seen his eyes light up.  We received the Gift For The Holidays Gift Box and loved the variety.  We hosted Thanksgiving and so I made up a platter of the Signature Beef Summer Sausage, Italian Recipe Summer Sausage and the cheeses.  Everything was so good and the plate was emptied several times.

UNO Roboto “House Rules!” Review

How many of you grew up playing UNO?  I honestly can’t remember when I began but it has been years since I have been playing.  It’s one I don’t get tired of though.  It was a great game to introduce to our kids when they were young because it was easy enough for them to play.

We were sent the UNO Roboto House Rules game just over a week ago.  The kids were all excited to try it.
I can’t tell you how many times we played UNO Roboto that weekend.  It was too many times to count.  All 4 of us enjoyed it.  Emily had book club here on Saturday night and we decided to add in our UNO Roboto House Rules Party to the mix.  We had a total of 6 girls and they had so much fun.   They played a game that took them just over a half an hour and then played it again.

UNO Roboto is played in the same fashion as UNO but with a few extra twists.  The Roboto adds so much fun to the game.

You begin the game by recording everyone’s name.  Just hearing the Roboto say your name makes you smile!  During the game he may tell you to record a nick name for one of the players.  We had everything from Bieber Lover to Oompah Loompah as nick names.  He also will have you set up a house rule.  Here are the girls doing the house rule of “Spin around 3 times and sit down.”  The last one to finish has to draw 2 cards.

The UNO Roboto game bring a whole new dimension to the game.  He is small enough to take to friends houses or even on vacation.  I know this game has gone to the top of our game list.  We are planning on introducing the grandparents to it on Thanksgiving!

My Friendship Bracelet Maker – 2011 Gift Guide – Giveaway – CLOSED

Do you remember making friendship bracelets when you were a kid?  I use to spend hours making them and then giving them as gifts to everyone.  Now that I have a daughter we have tried a few different ways to make them.  We have tried the bracelet making wheels but for a young girl, she would get confused.    When we received our Friendship Bracelet Maker Clipboard (myfbm.com) we read through the directions together and we got started.  Once we figured out how to do it  (there are step by step instructions to follow), Emily started in.  Here is a short video of her actually working on her bracelet.

She loves how easy the clipboard stye works.  She has been working on her bracelet little by little.  The floss is held tight by the round yellow clip at the top.  At the bottom you will find the holders which are numbered to place the thread through until you are ready to work it into the bracelet.  Once she is done with her bracelet, I actually want to make one for myself.  I am thinking Christmas colors!

What a great gift The Friendship Bracelet Maker would make for the girl or boy in your life.  I went with the clipboard style because the colors are less “girly” since Brad is at the age to make these too.

Activision Is All About Girls! – 2011 Gift Guide – BIG, BIG GIVEAWAY! – CLOSED

Last week I went to an Activision Games For Girls Summit up in Seattle.    Our hostess was Jenny from Jenny on the Spot (my sparkly girlfriend!)  We interacted with local bloggers from the NW.  I enjoyed seeing friends I already knew and meeting a few more local bloggers.  Blog events like the Activision Games for Girls Summit is a great place to meet bloggers and come into contact with some awesome PR companies.

We had the privilege to listen to Suzanne Kantra of Techlicious and Nicole Armstrong from Activision.   I can’t forget Amanda Young  from Sandbox Strategies who helped pull this event together for us.

As we enjoyed lunch and tables full of Activision games to try, we listened to Suzanne and Nicole.  Girls have been left out of the gaming demographics for quite awhile.  I know my daughter has had a hard time finding games that are geared more for her.  Activision is one company who is staying ahead of gaming for our girls.

My family loves gaming and we have enjoyed hours playing in front of our XBOX and Kinect.  The kids just recently sold their Nintendo DS’s for the more techy ipods.  All of us are on some sort of gaming device pretty much daily.  I am not sure how you feel about gaming but lets say, there are many households that are gaming.  These stats should shed a little  light on how popular gaming is.

  • 65.1 MM gamer households in US
  • 53.1 MM of those households classify themselves as ACTIVE gamer households
  • 10.3 MM have kids age 8-12 that play games (60/40 male/female)
  • 9.2 MM have kids age 13-17 that play games

This is from a 2010 A&U Study.

One factor when purchasing games for our kids is following the ESRB rating system.  This gives purchasers an idea if it is safe for you pre-schooler, tween and tween.  You will find the rating at the bottom of every video game.

They now have an ESRB app for your smart phone, so when you are out and about you can find more information about the game and if it’s safe for your child.  (Available for iphones, Androids and WP7-simply search ESRB in your marketplace.)

What Is A SugieWogie? Best SwimDress Ever!!! $300 Value #Giveaway – CLOSED

What is a SugieWogie?  I asked myself the same thing when I was first introduced.  Now I know it is a girl’s best friend.  This is the best made swimdress I have ever seen…really!   This fashionable, yet functional swimdress was created by Shari Riehl.  She knows most of us have real curves and need something to help us feel confident in a little less fabric.  (How refreshing that someone thought of us!)

VTech Connect to Cell Phone System DS6421-3 – 2011 Gift Guide – #Review

Did you know that in a recent survey45% of respondents said a phone call to catch up with them is the best present a distant friend or family could give them for the holidays; ranked highest among 55+ at 60%; dads ranked it at 47% and moms at 35%. Social media interaction ranked last at 5%.  I think back to when my Grandma was alive and how she would brighten up when one of us would call her just to say hi.  When the holidays hit, it seems like a phone call is one of the hardest things to fit into our day with the busyness of cooking, cleaning, shopping and wrapping gifts.

Now that Scott and I have smart-phones, our life is a bit easier to keep in touch.  I always have email or texting at my fingertips which has simplified my life a lot.   What usually happens to me is that I have been running errands and my phone is in my purse and I miss a call because it is tucked away.  Does that happen to you?

We had the opportunity to review the VTech Connect to Cell Phone System DS6421-3.  This phone is so handy to have.  I decided to see if I could set up the system without my husband’s help.  Super easy to charge the phones, add a voice message for when we are gone and get the bluetooth working on the system and our smart-phones.  I was able to do it all by myself!  Yay me!

I did have to go into my settings on my smart-phone to set up the bluetooth and once I had it programmed to search for the phone system, it found it in just a few seconds.  I was able to get my husbands phone all set up too.  The advantage to the VTech Connect to Cell Phone System DS6421-3 is once the bluetooth is set up, your smart-phone will ring as normal and so will your phone systems handsets.  I will never miss another call since I have 3 handsets throughout the house which I can pick up wherever I am.

Now when you are charging your phone, you no longer have to be attached to the charger cord.  The kids school has my cell number as the emergency number so I try and keep my phone with me even as I get ready for the day.  Now that we have a handset from the VTech Connect to Cell Phone System DS6421-3 upstairs in our room, I will never miss that call.

One of my husbands favorite features is the clarity of the calls.   It is crystal clear!  No more static phone calls from our phone.

How do you deal with a smelly fridge?  Have you purchased those little orange boxes hoping to eliminate the odors?  I know I have but they don’t always work as fast as I would like.

Cartoon Network’s Punch Time Explosion XL – 2011 Gift Guide – Giveaway – CLOSED

Here is a new game all your kids will want this holiday season!  Punch Time Explosion XL!  Cartoon Network will be releasing this new game November 15th, 2011!   Gaming formats will be XBOX 360, PlayStation 3 and the Wii.

The game is jam-packed with a huge cast of characters, powerful dual-character synergy attacks and five brand new battle arenas.   It will also feature a wide variety of multi-player options including numerous battle modes, as well as an in-depth story mode that introduces an all new co-op gameplay experience that supports up to four players.  An in-game store will give fans an opportunity to unlock new characters and arena, unique costumes and memorable cartoon clips from their favorite TV shows.

Libre Tea Glasses For Loose Leaf ‘On The Go’ – 2011 Gift Guide – Giveaway – CLOSED

Have you ever received some loose leaf tea and had it sit in it’s cute little container because you didn’t have a tea strainer?  I  have way too many times!   A month ago I found about the Libre Loose Leaf Tea containers and mugs.   These are very high quality…best I have ever seen!  The Libre line is made from glass and BPA free polypropylene.  The glass interior insures fresh tasting tea with a durable poly carbonate exterior for those of us who might be a little rough on our mugs.

There are two ways to brew the tea and both take approximately 5 minutes for seeping.  You can add the loose leaf tea to the mug, add your hot water and let it seep.  There is a stainless steel filter so you will not be drinking the tea leaves.  My preference is actually filling the mug with water, screwing on the filter, adding the tea and putting the lid on.  Once secure you turn the mug upside down to seep.  Then removing the filter and drinking the tea.

I have become a huge fan of green tea and I feel with the loose leaf teas you get such a better flavor and taste.  I am so excited to add the Libre Tea Products to my 2011 Gift Guide.
