Weekend Wrap Up – Some Much Needed Rest!

Photobucket
Those of you who read my Weekend Wrap Ups know how busy we have been the last month.  I am so happy to say we had a much quieter weekend.   Every single one of us were looking forward to the long weekend.

Originally, I hadn’t planned on going out on Friday but decided to run a few errands.   The kids were a bit uncooperative on deciding where dinner out should be.   One wanted Mexican and the other didn’t.  We came very close to driving back into the garage and staying home.  Finally we had a decision and off we went…and we ended up at a small Mexican restaurant in town.

Sleeping in was on my agenda for the weekend.  I have been feeling a little sleep deprived…our 13 year old dog has been needing to go out anywhere from 2 a.m. – 5 a.m.   I get up with her, crash on the couch until she is ready to come back in and then go back upstairs.  Most of the time I can fall right back asleep, but there are those mornings I don’t.  It felt great getting up when my body was ready to…not when the alarm said so.

It was a gorgeous day Saturday so we decided to go to McClane Nature Trail for some hiking and geocaching.  We had 6 caches to locate but only found 4.   Once we were home the kids were outside playing.   Relaxing, reading and enjoying the sun was they way I spent the rest of the day.

Sunday, Scott’s parents called to see if we were home.  They had some lumber to bring up.  I had BBQ hotdogs on the menu so invited them up to having a quick dinner with us.   It was nice visiting with them, the last few time we had been together we were all busy working getting ready for the estate sale.  Emily spent the night with her best friend so we went and did some treasure hunting at Goodwill and then checked out Football gear.  (Yes, our little guy is signed up to play this Fall.)

Another morning of sleeping in was heaven!  Kids were not wanting to go anywhere so we stayed home and caught up with the home stuff, like laundry.   Dinner on the BBQ came early so I could go to Zumba and get my workout in.  Scott is off this week and we have plenty of things to do while the kids are at school.  Scott is going to build a shed so we will hopefully be starting on that.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe Memorial Day weekend!  Don’t forget the Lawry’s giveaway ends this Wednesday!   Have a great week!

Dinnertising with Lawry’s! SO MUCH FUN! – Giveaway Extended! CLOSED

I love trying new recipes!  My family, not so much.  If something new is being made, I can guarantee my daughter or son will ask “What are you making for dinner?”  Sometimes I might hear an “ewwww” along with a wrinkled nose look.  One of our rules is to try what is on your plate.  Most times they are pleasantly surprised.  I know what they like so don’t go too far from the norm.

Adding spices and marinades are a great way to introduce new flavors around our house.  I know they love chicken and don’t seem to be too particular on what flavor it brings, as long as it is not too spicy!  They like spicy but not hot and I get that because I was the same way as a kid.

Saturday night, I had thawed some chicken breasts so I had Emily help me prepare dinner.  We decided to try the Lawry’s Herb and White Wine Marinade.  I actually handled the chicken but showed her how to do this safely to avoid any cross contamination.  We did this by carefully adding the marinade and chicken into a plastic bag.  The marinade takes about 30 minutes, which was perfect for getting the rest of dinner prepared.

We decided to try the Lawry’s Roasted Garlic Salt on diced potatoes.  Emily added a little bit of butter and some ice cubes.  We then wrapped the potatoes tightly in foil and put it on the grill with the chicken.  They take about the same time to cook so everything finished at the same time.  We added some baby carrots to complete our meal.  It was delicious!  The kids plates were completely clean.

Lawry’s is working at making dinnertime fun with the kids.  Whether they are helping prepare the meal or just up for trying something new.  They have this fun program on their site where you (and the kids too) can pick out a new meal to try.  A picture of the dish is shown first and you can click on the recipe to see what ingredients you may need.   Next you will pick a theme (boy or girl).  Once it has been chosen you can watch a fun “dinnertisement”  with the kids.  It is a very clever way to introduce the new meal you are making.  It only takes about 3 minutes to go from start to finish with the video and I know your kids will think you are so “cool” making them their personalized “Dinnertisement!”

Now it’s your turn!  If you make a Lawry’s Dinnertisement for your family and share the link with a brief description in a comment you can enter to win a fantastic Dinnertisement Kit.

The giveaway will close on June 3rd at noon PST. Winner will be chosen using *And The Winner Is plugin*. Open to US.

Disclosure:  I received the Lawry’s seasonings for review purposes on behalf of TheMotherhood.  This is a compensated campaign.  The opinions on the products are solely my own.
