The Special K Challenge Works!

Slow and steady wins the race!  Isn’t that what we have been told about losing weight?  If you lose 2-3 pounds a week, you are doing it the healthy way.  It is more likely to stay off by taking it slow.  I did just that!  I started the Special K Two Week Challenge on January 2nd and completed it today.   I am so proud to see the scale reflecting my efforts.  I am down 5 pounds!!!  Woohoo!

The Special K challenge is simple and so easy to follow.  My typical day started off with a bowl of Special K cereal (favorite: Red Berries Cereal).  I would have a cereal bar snack around 10 a.m. (favorite:  Chocolatey Pretzel).  Lunch was next and I would enjoy a protein shake or protein bar.  I started adding fruit to the protein shakes and made some great  combinations like chocolate banana or vanilla strawberry banana…yum!  (favorite protein bar:  Chocolate peanut butter).    For my snack around 2:30 I would enjoy either the Special K crackers or the cracker chips (favorite:  Sea Salt cracker chips).   Dinner was a sensible meal that I would make.

The flexibility is in the plan too.  You can switch out your meals for other meals which I did towards the end of the challenge.  You are allowed to drink what you normally would.  The only calorie drink I did have was my coffee every morning.  The rest of the 2 weeks I drank zero calorie drinks.

I have learned so much about healthy eating during the last two weeks.   I was never a breakfast eater.  I always had a cup of coffee but never had much of an appetite for anything else.  I have learned that morning is the best time to refuel our bodies after 8-12 hours of not eating.  I have also learned about eating smaller meals and adding snacks in between my meals.

I have been a calorie tracker for awhile now so while I participated in the Special K challenge I was also tracking my calories.  This became really important at dinner.  I didn’t want to undo everything I had been doing during the day.  I also added exercise into the plan.  We would walk, boxing on the XBOX or an exercise DVD.

What will I do next?  My goal in the beginning of the challenge was to lose 20 pounds…now 15!  I will continue utilizing the tools I learned the last two weeks and move on.   I plugged in some numbers tonight on my Special K phone app and will be focusing on losing 11 pounds by my birthday at the end of next month.  I love these little goals because they are achievable.

I encourage you to try this Special K challenge.  It really is an easy plan!

I Am Beginning “My Special K” Challenge Today!

I have to tell you how excited I am to be starting the Special K Challenge today!  What does that mean?  It means that I will be eating bowls of yummy Special K cereal two times a day.  I will be enjoying two Special K snacks AND eating a sensible meal of my choice.

I rarely snack so I am excited to see if I stay full from all this great food.  I think one of my biggest problems losing weight is eating too little during the day and then eating too much at dinner.  I have always struggled losing weight.  I lose but tend to gain it back in time.  This year I have the incentive of losing weight by the time August rolls around.  I am planning on attending BlogHer 12 in New York and I would love to be 20 pounds lighter as I meet so many of my blogging friends.  August will be here before I know it and I really do want to look my best.  The Special K challenge is a great jump start helping me achieve my goal.

Take a look at what I will be eating the next two weeks?  Pretty amazing isn’t it?  The best part is I don’t see me getting bored, there is tons of variety…Dark Chocolate protein shake…yum!  Chocolately Pretzel cereal bars…another yum!  I love seeing all that ‘CHOCOLATE’ in there…woohoo!

How would you like to join me?  I signed up today and am ready to start tomorrow morning.  It is very simple to get yourself all set up.  They will ask you some basic questions and they will come up with a plan just for you.  You even have choices of simple meals, meals that will use your kitchen skills or vegetarian.  I chose the simple meals since I have kids and need quick meals to get on the table.

After answering the questions, I was given my plan.  I am impressed that I won’t have to guess what to eat.  They tell you everything.  Below my daily plan, they list the recipe of the meal they have chosen for me.  You also have the option to swap your meal out for theirs.

I was thrilled to see that they have a mobile app for those of us on the go.  I downloaded it onto my Android phone (available for the iphone too) and now have my plan with me everywhere I go.   I am going to my sister’s this weekend and thought it might pose a bit of a challenge following along while I will be gone.  With my app I can bring along the foods the challenge has me scheduled to eat with no problems.  I will choose to make smart choices at dinner like a salad or grilled seafood!

Are you ready to start with me now?  It looks easy and very doable!  I will keep you updated on my progress as the two weeks go by.   I would love for you to join me…be sure to tell me if you are.  I can add you as my friend and we can encourage each other!  What do we have to lose but extra pounds?
